Mindfulness for Caregivers

An 8 week course for those in a Caregiving role.

Having previously been a Caregiver for my elderly mum, I appreciate the emotional rollercoaster ride that Caregiving can bring.  I share with you how simple tools and techniques can help you to to better manage emotions, attention, reactions and to be more kind and compassionate towards yourself.

The course is delivered online via Zoom.  My aim is to create a safe space for everyone to learn tools and techniques that you can so easily incorporate into your life, including and beyond your Caregiving. The course follows the format of the well publicised Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, but through Oxford Mindfulness Centre (a leader of Mindfulness interventions in the UK), it is adapted to shine a light on Caregiving and highlight the emotions and sensations that we experience, learning how to shine a different lens on our experience.

With a different theme each week, this course will teach you key concepts of Mindfulness Practice, with practical application throughout.  As the course is progressive in nature it is important that you are able to commit to the full 8 weeks course. 

The Course

Week 1:  Orientation
Week 2: Automatic Pilot
Week 2:  Our bodies are our compass
Week 3:  Gathering our tangled and scattered minds
Week 4 - Recognising Reactivity
Week 5:  Allowing: Letting be
Week 6: Thoughts are not facts
Week 7: Looking after myself
Week 8:  Reflect and Move Forward

As you work through the course, you'll start to form the foundations of a Mindfulness habit and as such, you'll be asked to complete home practice 6 days out of 7 between each session.  ​Of course, this is not compulsory but you'll get the most out of the course if you try to complete the home practice.

Current Courses
The 8 week course will run generally on weekday evenings.  Each session can vary in length dependent on the size of the class and the level of discussion.  Generally each session will last 60 minutes but I allow and extra 15 minutes, just in case we get into an insightful discussion as I don't want us to feel rushed.
